There is so much more to teaching than just academics. Building up their character, life lessons, and letting them know they are loved.

Tell us why you became a teacher

School was always difficult for me. I really struggled with reading comprehension and phonics. I want to help other students overcome their fears and negative outlook on themselves to realize that they can do hard things.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Years ago I had a student that had to work extra hard. She was not a fan of reading. I discovered that she loved Peppa Pig. I ended up buying a set of Peppa Pig books. She worked so hard at reading one of them. She continued to practice and wanted to read it to the class. Their reaction was priceless. I had tears streaming down my cheeks as they cheered for her. The following year she came back to be a guest reader.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would refresh my classroom library. Many of the books are quite worn from having them for many years. Having more books would also allow me opportunities for students to take home and keep some of them. I would also like to have some coats, boots, and snow pants for students to use at recess. I would use the money to bless my students. This would also allow me the opportunity to make more hygiene kits for my students to have at school.
