I teach first grade and I get to teach children how to read! Also, being at the same school means I get siblings of former students.
Help me become America's Favorite Teacher, win $25,000, a trip to Hawaii, and appear in Reader's Digest!

Learn MoreI was actually inspired by my 1st grade teacher Miss Lindsay. I adored her so much that I wanted to be like her when I grew up. Every year my elementary school had a "career week" and every year, I drew myself as a teacher. I actually have the one I drew in 2nd grade framed in my classroom. I spent my entire life working toward that goal. I started babysitting in 4th grade, and was always told how natural I was with kids. I never changed my mind, I knew it was what I was meant to be.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI don't know how you pick one experience. This is my 11th year at the same school. The best part about that is getting to watch these kids grow up. I've had entire families of siblings. I think it's a tie between the relationships that last and getting to see the growth that happens with each child in those 9 months of school. Helping students continue to try new things until that lightbulb finally goes off. Celebrating them learning how to read is definitely at the top of my list as well.
What would you do with the $25,000?I still have private loans from my teaching credential program, so I would use that money to pay down that loan. Maybe treat myself to a new book, massage and pedicure first.
