Teaching is a work of the heart, soul, body, and brain. Watching a child learn and seeing that spark in their eyes, that is why I teach.

I became a teacher when I was also a young mother. I was striving to achieve a respectable career; a career that also gave me that emotional bond as well. Seeing my students build knowledge, character, and self assurance, is why I teach. I was also blessed with two parents that taught (elementary and high school levels). My parents dedicated their careers teaching children from ages 5 to 18. It is their light that shines through me today.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceThis is a very difficult request, as there are so many different ones and for different reasons. I would have to say, when a parent of one of my kindergarten students stated that their child comes to school because of me. This child was emotional, had outbursts, and found peace and love in my classroom. Those few words meant the world to me. I am blessed.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would pay my bills and take my children to see my family in Denmark. My father was a foreign exchange student in high school when he fell in love with my mother. Unfortunately, my father passed away at age 39 of a massive heart attack. I was only 8 years of age at the time. I have uncles, cousins, and other family members that I have not been able to see since I was a very young girl. My three children have not met them at all. This would be my dream.
