Connect Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher so that I could help build future adults. My goal has always been to inspire students academically and holistically, helping them grow into thoughtful, capable, and well-rounded adults. Even though I have always taught electives such as Art, Photography, Graphic Design, and Animation, I always made sure that I taught the students that learning to escape with a hobby would help make them a more well-rounded human. It teaches them to see the world from a different perspective.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I love to watch my students grow and learn, to see the world through the eyes of others, and to become independent. Part of what I teach is to show my students that even though they may not want to be a photographer in the future, they can use this skill to build entrepreneurial skills and make money. I was able to teach my students how to run a photography business. Before graduation, three of my students are making money in their businesses and winning awards in photography.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I love to learn, I want to grow my skills as a photography and graphic design teacher. I would love to take classes in these areas or pursue my master's. With any remaining money, I would like to build a studio space fully equipped with the same equipment I have in my class so I can learn more at home and offer summer and evening classes to the local community. I know that there are lots of parents that also want to learn the skills I am teaching their children and I would like to offer that.
