Learn MoreI became a teacher to bring out the best in each of my students. I knew I didn’t just want to teach curriculum, but to teach a child as a whole person. I wanted to become a teacher to help students be who they are. I have spent the last 32 years using skills to help children feel confident, strong, and to find the magic that’s inside each of them. I knew that children will learn if they are having fun, feel safe, and are pushed with high expectations. I knew I was meant to become a teacher!
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience was working with my 6th grade partner Laurie Gonzales. She and I created magic everyday for our students for 13 years. We had fun, so our students had fun! We gave them hands on projects, we taught them not only curriculum, but that relationships need time sometimes, and how to find joy even when life is a struggle. I could feel the magic everyday I came to work! We created “Captain Oh Captain!” Students come back and tell me how amazing that year was!
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use this money to help put my daughter through college to complete her forensics degree, and help my son with paramedic school to continue his path to becoming a fireman. I would purchase science materials for my classroom! My love for science is huge!
