After retiring from USAF after 23yrs of service, I wanted a second career that fulfilled my passion for mentoring young adults.

Learn MoreI was called to teach, much like people feel called to the ministry. I loved my job in the military, I worked with teams of professionals all over the world completing mission essential construction projects. I now pass on the skills I learned in the military to young high school men and women. However, I often tell my students and parents, construction is probably the least important thing I teach them. What's most important are the life skills and mentoring I provide them.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceIt's tough teaching because you often don't see the impact you have immediately. One of the best pieces of advise I ever received was this, "Remember, your planting seeds, and may never enjoy the shade." Students reaching out years later thanking me is always great. However, if I had to pick one, it would be a trip I took with 4 students to Peru. We were able to take prosthetics we 3D printed and fit them on 37 amputees. It was an amazing experience!
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use most of the $25,000 to help fund future prosthetic trips for my students. Also, I love cooking for my students, so we'd have a big BBQ to celebrate this fantastic award!
