Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to make a difference with the students and world. Everybody deserves to have a right for Education. Education opens the doors for everyone and we need a well educated society. I know that my teaching has impacted many lives in a positive way. It is a great privilege to be called a teacher because of all the magnificent things that we can do and all the students that we impact through all the years. If I have to do it again, I would choose to be a teacher.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I was nominated teacher of the year and I was one of the four teachers that participated for the grand prize. Although I didn’t win it was an unforgettable experience. The students celebrated the moment for me. PBS came to our school and handed an award in front of the students and it was great to share this moment with my class and other students. A great experience for both of us. I am very happy the students got the opportunity to see me being recognized because it was a motivation.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Since I am a single mother, I would like to use some of the money to help my daughter with her college education. She is studying for a bachelors degree in music education. I would also buy supplies for my classroom and my students.
