Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to give my knowledge and caring back to our future. That same kindness was extended to me as a poor child growing up in East Tennessee. I love to see joy and excitement on faces of young people who have a desire to learn. I want more than anything to let the children know that I care about them and will be a supportive person to come to about anything.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I most memorable teaching experience has been a previous student who surprised me by walking into my class whom I had not seen in several years. I didn’t recognize him until he spoke. He told me what a difference I made in his life by being kind and helpful to him when he had been in trouble throughout the years with behaviour issues. He came from a very rough family environment , was limited on resources, and had no desire or interest in doing any school work. His life changed after me.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would give supplies, clothes and opportunities back to the children who have a need. I have a small nonprofit organization that gives toiletries, household goods, and other supplies to low income families, homeless, and anyone who has a need. It’s important that children have access to these items.
