Tell us why you became a teacher

I started college as a nursing major but realized halfway through it wasn’t for me. Reflecting on my experiences—tutoring, coaching kids in ski racing—I discovered my true passion was working with children. I love feeling their excitement, introducing them to new ideas, and helping them grow. Switching to education changed my life; I felt happier, fulfilled, and knew I was exactly where I was meant to be. Teaching ignites my purpose, and I’m grateful for the chance to inspire young minds.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was my first year after graduating from UVM in 2019. I moved to Denver and became a STEM teacher for 3rd-5th graders in Denver Public Schools. It was a huge learning curve managing multiple grade levels and traveling between classrooms with my cart, but it fueled my passion for inspiring kids in STEM. Despite the challenges, it was one of the most exciting roles I’ve had, allowing me to connect with students in unique and meaningful ways.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I’m fortunate enough to win this prize, I’d be incredibly grateful. I would use part of the $25,000 to help pay off my student loans, easing some financial stress. I’d also invest in classroom resources to create more engaging, meaningful opportunities for my students. Lastly, I’d prioritize self-care—whether through traveling to see family and friends or other ways to recharge—because teaching requires a full cup, and caring for myself helps me be the best for my students.
