Tell us why you became a teacher

Since I was young, I dreamed of being a teacher. I played teacher in my basement creating problems and forcing my siblings and friends to act as students. I loved going to school and always enjoyed doing homework and working towards my goal. As I got older, this dream remained. I could not imagine doing anything other than helping students learn and succeed. I enjoy knowing that I have the power to brighten my student’s days and have a positive impact on their lives.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My class hosted a surprise birthday party for me. They created an extensive plan for who was bringing what, who was setting up certain aspects of the decorations, and when everyone should arrive and do their part on the back of a fake math worksheet to hide it from me. They collaborated with a specials teacher to make sure I was out of the room and even created a slideshow about all the reasons they are lucky to have me as a teacher. I will never forget the time and effort they put into this!

What would you do with the $25,000?

As someone who truly loves to work, I rarely take time for myself. I would love to spend some of it on a fun trip to relax and restore this summer! Teaching is stessful, and a vacation is much needed!
