Tell us why you became a teacher

As a student I was drawn to the sciences, especially Earth and Space Science. As I found my way through college I ended up with a geology degree and when I needed to figure out my next step, someone suggested since I like to help people, I should teach Earth Science to middle and high school students. It made sense and after attaining my teachers certificate, I have spent the last 25 yrs doing just that!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Most memorable teaching experiences are when you make connections with students who share the same interests in the subject matter I am covering or when you read an email from a parent saying that their student actually likes science for the first time thanks to my class.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I had the $25,000 AND the trip to Hawaii (an Earth Science lover's dream trip) I would use some of that money to maximize that once in a lifetime experience with different excursions to the volcanoes and other geo adventures. I would use some of it to improve my science classroom/program, and the rest to pay off debt and possibly improve my car situation (currently drive a 2008 model)
