Tell us why you became a teacher

I’ve always loved working with children and watching them see the world through their creative eyes. Also, from my own experience I know how much of an impact teachers can have on a child’s life. I’ve always wanted to be that person who can show kids how learning can be fun, while making sure all of my students feel included and cared for in my classroom. Children can endure very difficult experiences outside of school, so I’ve always wanted to provide a sense of security to those who need it.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

This past December, my grade level team had a “Polar Express” themed day. I decided to set up my students’ chairs in a row down the middle of the room and acted as a conductor as my students entered the room by giving them tickets. We then pretended to chug the train along and I’ll always remember the sounds of their giggles and the look of joy and excitement on their faces. I love creating magical experiences for my kids!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would love to invest money into my classroom by purchasing supplies, toys, furniture, etc. to help make my students’ learning experience more productive and engaging. I would also love to help purchase items for students in need, like gloves, hats, or food to ensure all of their basic needs are met. Finally, I would put money towards getting my masters degree is TESOL in order to learn more strategies of how to effectively teach my students who are learning English as a second language.
