I love teaching because my students challenge and inspire me every day. They allow me to help them make connections to their world.

I became a teacher as an act of service. Both of my parents were in the marine corps and my mother is currently a Bishop in the Episcopal Church. As a result, the importance of community and service were always emphasized in my house. Teaching is how I show my commitment to those values and I hope to do the same for my students!
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching moment was during Covid when teachers and students were learning at home. It was such a hard time in education. During teacher appreciation week, the teacher SCA sponsor created a Padlet with all of the teachers in the school on it. Students left “sticky notes” for their teachers, writing about why they appreciated them. Seeing so many students appreciate how their teachers were their heroes is one of the most memorable moments of my career.
What would you do with the $25,000?Oh gosh; I would do so many things. I would like to pay off my students loans so I can take some grad classes to be eligible to teach Dual Enrollment. Or I would love to be able to offer scholarships to students to join me on one of my student international travel trips. I would also love to take a sabbatical and get a degree as a reading specialist. I could also take my field hockey players on an international sports exchange. I would like to continue my commitment to my students!
