Being a Kindergarten teacher is a career that I love and am passionate about. The best part is seeing my students grow and love learning.

Being driven to make a difference in the lives of children is why I became a teacher. First, I believe all children can learn. Learning should be an active and social process. Second, it is the teacher’s responsibility to facilitate the process of discovery/inquiry based learning. Next, the interests and backgrounds of students must be part of curriculum and lesson planning. Last, teachers must continually seek the most current and effective ways for children to learn, based on sound research.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceThe surprises of my first months of teaching were wrapped in everyday boxes. Some contained sweet treasures while others held hidden snares. One of my most memorable teaching experiences was when I received a surprise package I was reluctant to open. “You will be getting a student in your kindergarten class that only speaks Swahili and French.” The challenge of working with a non-English speaking student was the greatest surprise yet most rewarding experience in my first months of teaching.
What would you do with the $25,000?If I won $25,000, I would do three things with the money: First, I would give to my local church as they are involved with missions in my county and abroad to which I want to participate in. Second, I would give a portion of the money to “St. Jude’s,” so I can help the children who are suffering. Third, I would participate in teacher self-care by taking a much needed vacation, so I can relax and rejuvenate as all teachers should do. When we take care of ourselves, we’re better for our students.
