Tell us why you became a teacher

I gravitated towards teaching when young. I played teacher with my own white board and fancy apple ruler. I think certain teachers are born with “the apple” inside of them. It’s in our bones. I didn’t become a teacher, I was born a teacher. Valuing my students for who they are and helping them feel seen and understood. Building on their strengths and bridging the gap between confidence and their abilities. Having them get to the next phase of life with ease.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

It’s hard to pick just one. My students equal my happiness. It’s the slightest touch of holding hands or when I put them down for nap and tell them “Good night, love you” and when they begin to reply with “Love you too.” It’s the comfortability they grow to have with you as they hug you from behind or put their feet on you when reading a book. It’s going from teacher to student to the class feeling like it’s own family. It’s a feeling of joy, pride, warmth, love. There is nothing more memorable

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would put it in my savings, retirement and give some to the school. As a single 31 year old teacher, I pay for all of life’s expenses on my own. I am happy to spend on my classroom and students to keep their interests in learning going. I find myself worrying about groceries, gas and bills. It would mean more than anything to have this cushion. To be worry free at night and know I am safe in the career I am meant to be in. I hope I am considered, I would be eternally grateful to be thought of.
