Elizabeth Thompson

I love watching the faces of my students as they learn new things. They light up and get excited about their new learning.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to make a difference to the students who struggle. These students are often overlooked or labeled as lazy. They are not. They need lessons to be person a different way.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable time is one student who came from a private school into my public school class. He told me he couldn’t read and was always in trouble. After working with him, I was capable of so much. I met with his mom to discuss him being evaluated for ADHD. His mom adjusted his foot to avoid sugar which made a huge difference. Her son began to thrive. His confidence grew and by the end of the year he was on the honor roll. His mom cried and brought me roses in thanksgiving.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would take a short vacation to the beach. Then, I would payoff my student loans. This would allow me to buy more supplies for my classroom.
