Tell us why you became a teacher

I had a teacher that showed me how important it is to see different perspectives and how you should always try to continue your education, even by just reading a book. I was privileged to have parents who cared for me and I was never hungry; unfortunately some of my best friends weren’t as lucky. However, I remember a few teachers that would do what they could to provide guidance and support. This stuck with me and made me realize I wanted to be that person for other people.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

When I first started teaching I had the idea I wanted to teach middle school. I became a long-term sub for an 8th grade classroom fresh out of college. Although, I now teach preschool, middle was my most memorable time though short. I learned that I wasn’t cut for middle school, but I also learned that it’s okay to learn along the way. I loved seeing the light in a student’s eye when I told them that doing their best is still good enough but they were capable of more. This shaped my mentality.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would definitely want to be smart in my spending. I would want to put some money towards my debt and pay for the last certifications I need, so I can finish my education journey. With any left over money I would want to give back to my community by supporting the church my parents work at and provide a few new equipment for my school that grants would not cover.
