Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I love kids and want them to perform to their best ability. I enjoy seeing kids work hard, then boom to understand what they are working so hard at. I want to make each and every kid I touch to be a contribution to their community in some way. The “aha” moments lighten my heart. Seeing kids to succeed, there is no better enjoyment in the world!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

This kid came to school wearing shorts in 25 degrees weather. When I approached him and asked him about his choice, his response was it was warm when I woke up. I taught him to feel the window. If it was cold he should wear long sleeve shirt,long pants. This student’s family like so many others did not know sign language so communication was limited. After then he understood. Another student I had was burned severely, no fingers only a prosthetic thumb, no hair, I taught her to wear a wig.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would start a tutoring business. This would provide a better opportunity for the hearing impaired kids to excel in Their academics. Another need in the hearing impaired population is counseling for deaf/hard of hearing impaired kids. There is a desperate need for these services for the kids to discuss what is happening with them. I would provide a scholarship for people interested in going into this field.
