Tell us why you became a teacher

I grew up in a small tight knit community in Pacific Palisades where I was lucky enough to go to St. Matthew's day camp and then work there every summer as a camp counselor. In college I interned at different jobs, there I discovered that I enjoyed working with the kiddos. ❤️I knew it was my calling to educate and empower students by the time I graduated college. Since 1994 I have had the privilege of teaching hundreds of kids and have learned so much from all of them.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My proudest moment AND most memorable teaching experience actually happened at my daughter's graduation and the valedictorian mentioned my name as his most influential teacher. Needless to say I was bawling my eyes out. This was a boy who entered my class a broken 5th grader. He was so reserved and sad. I took a special interest in him and exposed him to the arts where he thrived and could express himself. I don't take credit for how far he came but I was along for his journey.

What would you do with the $25,000?

We would put the money into rebuilding our home so I could rejoin the community I have loved for 56 years. I would also love to invest in a community garden for students to learn and connect with nature.
