I get to see the students change almost daily and it’s just fun to be around younger people. It’s nice to make a difference in so many lives

Tell us why you became a teacher

When I was in High School, I remember having a math teacher and thinking, “I can do better than this person”. In junior college, I was helping classmates and they told me, ”I think you’d be a good teacher”. Lastly, I like to travel and knew I would have the time as a teacher to be able to do so.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I gave a warm up at the beginning of class. Student “A”, who rarely offered an answer, gave me an answer. The rest of the students thought it was a different answer. She was horrified because she thought she was wrong. Her answer happened to be the only correct answer. After discussion, seeing the pride on her face was irreplaceable.

What would you do with the $25,000?

First, I would take my family on a memorable vacation to celebrate my daughter graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point before she serves our country. Next, I currently have the students assist me at times due to limited abilities caused by my MS, so I would pay to get help training my puppy to be a service dog.
