Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher so that I can help children. Before teaching I was studying to get my masters degree in Social Work. I quickly realized that I wanted to help children before they got to the point of CPS and teaching called my name. Now I get to help mold the minds of our future and help my students in more ways than I could ever have imagined! I can see my students that come to school hungry and pack them snacks for the weekend or talk to the ones who are alone on the playground.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was just last month. I got switched from 4th grade to 6th grade this year. While I was teaching I got a knock on my door. When I opened it I saw a student that I had from the previous year. She was holding three papers and smiling from ear to ear. She told me “I wanted to come show you my grades! I passed my tests Ms! You helped me get here!” I told her how proud I was of her. The fact that she wanted to share that moment with me was incredible!

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won the $25,000 I would first pay off my student loans, and with the money left over I would invest in flexible seating for my classroom! I have been using diy flexible seating and furniture from yard sales, but I would love to see the smile on my students faces when I have new furniture for them!
