Becoming a teacher was a thoughtful journey, inspired by my experience with my nephew, who has special needs. I chose to be a Homebound teacher because I believe in the power of education to change lives. Helping students navigate challenges and seeing their growth is incredibly rewarding. Inspired by teachers who made me feel valued, I strive to create an environment built on trust, respect, and a belief in each student’s potential. It’s about empowering them to succeed.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceA few years ago, I set goals and objectives for a student to use her augmentative communication device to respond with a single word. By the end of the year, she progressed to responding with two words. I continue to introduce new vocabulary, and she now has the ability to choose from four words to communicate her responses.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would designate a significant portion of the $25,000 to purchasing or replacing educational resources, including adaptive paintbrushes, scissors, abilitation abiligrips, cardboard books, cause-and-effect toys, textured switches, chunky crayons, and fine motor and sensory equipment. I'd also invest in a Brain Pop Jr. app subscription, along with other tools to enhance learning. Additionally, I would plan a trip to recharge and gather new experiences.
