Tell us why you became a teacher

I have worked in law enforcement most of my adult life, as a Military Police Officer with the United States Army and also as a Correctional Officer with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. While working in those positions, I noticed that offenders were becoming younger and younger. I vowed to find a way to work with students before they made choices that would affect their lives negatively. So, I became a teacher.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable moment as a teacher happened after I no longer had the student. It was the year that COVID hit and our student were sent home to quarantine. At the end of the school year, the students were asked to write a message to their teachers. This student wrote me a letter telling me that she appreciated all of my help. I was the only person who believed in her and told her that she was smart.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would like to upgrade the technology in my classroom and be able to purchase materials for my students to be able to have meaningful hands-on learning opportunities.
