I became a teacher because I wanted to give kids a safe & supportive childhood even if just for a year Growing up without parents being homeless at 15 & a mother by 17 made school difficult. I skipped school to a point where I wasn't going to graduate I almost gave up until 1 teacher made me believe I mattered & helped me graduate. Now I have a master's degree at 26 because someone cared I wanted to be that magic for all kids they too are capable of achieving greatness no matter the circumstance

Over the years I run into so many kids with different stories. One year I had this little girl in my class who would come in every day with her hair messy. I brought a brush and some hair bands and braided it for her. Every morning she would get there early for me to braid her hair. That prompted other students to reach out to me. I bought snacks for my students who were hungry I read stories because the class said they never get read to at home. That year I knew I was meant to be in this career

I would donate $3000 to my school for student needs. I would try to pay some of my student loans, buy my kids a better bed at home, fix our cars so they aren't breaking down anymore, and save the rest for my own children's college fund because education is powerful and I want them to dream big just as someone once gave me the chance too.
