I love the interaction with my students; their response to my instruction; and the highest College Board AP scores we earned together.

Register NowAs a child, I loved going to school and enjoyed doing homework. I became a teacher primarily because a middle school teacher instilled in me a deep love for learning, and a high school literature teacher inspired me someday take his place. After 18 years of teaching, I was offered a scholarship to Pan American University. My family insisted that I accept, so I kept my full-time job, took night/summers courses, and achieved our goal. Today I proudly celebrate 40+ years of service to my students.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience involved 252 of my students. Their record- setting AP test scores proved they qualified for higher level dual enrollment. To provide that option, I collaborated in designing, and by partnership between University of Texas Pan American and Valley View ISD, implemented the UTPA/VVISD Medical Spanish Minor Program for 11 years. Earning a Minor degree in Medical Spanish before high school graduation garnered a College Board Innovation Program Award for VVISD.
What would you do with the $25,000?First, I will share with two friends who throughout 15 years, worked closely with me to promote and sustain Community Service Internships. Secondly, based on my extensive experience and proven AP Test Prep strategies, I will invest in production of a tool kit for teachers focused on higher education goals of their students. I will also help establish a scholarship fund for students in very low-income families so they can achieve their academic goal of becoming teachers.
