Tell us why you became a teacher

My passion was inspired by my Grade 4 teacher, whose engaging science lessons ignited my curiosity. My passion was further fueled by my mother, a dedicated educator whose impact I witnessed firsthand. Teaching runs in my family - my grandfather was a teacher, and my uncle is a college professor- instilling in me a deep respect for education. These influences shaped my calling to inspire wonder, critical thinking, and a love for learning in every student I teach.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable experience was leading a hands-on biology project where students designed ecosystems in small terrariums. Watching their excitement as they connected scientific concepts to real-world applications was inspiring. One student, initially disengaged, transformed into a class leader, sharing insights and mentoring peers. Seeing her confidence and curiosity grow reminded me of the profound impact of teaching and reinforced my passion for fostering discovery in my students.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If honored with the $25,000 prize, I would use it to enrich my classroom and community. A portion would fund innovative science resources, such as lab equipment and technology, since my school lacks these resources. Finally, I’d invest in professional development opportunities to further enhance my teaching skills and continue inspiring the next generation of learners.
