Tell us why you became a teacher

I decided to become a teacher because I have a natural ability to nurture and care for everyone. I enjoy helping students recognize their strengths and conquer challenges academically or otherwise. I have been through so much medically and had those teachers who took the time to get to know me and not just label me help me see my true calling as an educator.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was about eight years ago, when I had a student add me to their promotion speech. My students are like my kids since I don’t have any of my own, Sergio Orozco had a good grade in my class and was an all around great student. Sergio’s message to the crowd was if Miss Young can do it and get through everything she has gotten through in life then we can too. He told the crowd that I am the reason he fights so hard, that I taught him to never give up.

What would you do with the $25,000?

When I win the 25,000, I would pay off school loan debt and also purchase a new vehicle. I have so many miles on my current one and use it to commute for both of my teaching jobs. It’s time for a replacement so I can continue to do what I love and get to where I need to be.
