I learned early on in my own grade school experience that teachers help students develop more than academic knowledge; teachers prepare students to navigate challenges and embrace change with confidence. Having that influence on another person’s life is incredibly rewarding. Of course, the unexpected, hilarious moments in the classroom that foster a sense of community and camaraderie are also unforgettable in the best ways!

Supporting my first class of freshmen babies through their hardest days and lowest lows has allowed me to build deep connections with each of them. It has been incredible to witness their resilience and transformation over the last 4 years. Knowing I played a part in their journey is one of my all-time greatest teaching pleasures. On another note, a squirrel dropped through the ceiling of my classroom once and caused total chaos and hilarity at the same time. Super memorable!

I’m real, not perfect: After paying off the rest of my student loans and credit card debt, the money would likely go towards whatever post-secondary plans my two boys imagine for themselves. If I could, I would also love to establish a scholarship fund for students in need that would help them access extracurricular activities and summer programs. Such programs were a crucial part of my development as a young person, so I know how transformative they would be to others.
