Tell us why you became a teacher

I come from a family of teachers, and all my sisters are educators whose passion inspired me to pursue teaching. My elder sister financed my college studies in the Philippines, fueling my desire to positively impact my students’ lives. Growing up among dedicated teachers instilled in me a deep respect for education and a commitment to empower others. In 2023, I was hired by a California school district, and I continue to honor my family’s legacy.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was with a student with special needs who had significant behavioral challenges. During our first month together, I struggled to manage his behavior, and my initial strategies failed. However, by carefully assessing his needs and adapting my teaching methods, I eventually developed a tailored approach that allowed him to improve. This experience deepened my commitment to empathy, patience, and innovative teaching techniques that truly make a difference.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I will donate some of my prizes to the school where I once taught in the Philippines because I know many students there face significant challenges. I believe in giving back to the community that helped shape my career. My donation is a small token of gratitude meant to support the school’s resources and improve opportunities for these deserving students so they may overcome obstacles and achieve academic success. This donation reflects my commitment to improve education for each student in need
