Tell us why you became a teacher

I spent my much of my childhood and adolescent life in PLAST Ukrainian scouting. I learned how to be punctual, accountable, empathic and a respectful human being. When I became older, I was given the opportunity to teach all these skills I had learned to kids following my footsteps. These lessons I learned I still use to this very day, and it provides me purpose to be able to pass along the wisdom I’ve retained to the children I teach every day.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

A memorable moment I will always treasure revolves around my students being there for me when I was going through a difficult time. When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, I was devastated. In response, my students organized a charitable fundraiser to get supplies to the refugees of the war. They galvanized together, without any reason except to help others in need, and to make me feel better. As teachers, we care about our students, but sometimes we forget how much they care about us

What would you do with the $25,000?

With 25,000 dollars, I would donate money to the people of Ukraine who are in need. So much of the man, and the teacher, I am today comes from my heritage, and there are people who would benefit from a donation of this size more than me. I would also consider paying off the debts of my parents. They sacrificed so much to get me to where I am today. They are my heroes and I would love to give back to them as well.
