Teaching allows me to show students that learning is fun, impactful, and life-long. I can provide a safe place for students to grow.

Teaching is not my first career. I was in Real Estate for 12 years. I learned a lot but realized that It just wasn’t for me. I have always loved teaching and working with kids, but had only done it through volunteer opportunities (sports/church). I began teaching English online to students over seas and knew that educating was the path for me. I love bringing the real world into the classroom to excite students to discover new things. It also keeps me young and lets me try out new dad jokes.

I often need to adapt my teaching to my students’ needs. I like to use the Sasquatch (Bigfoot)when we write opinion pieces. “Are they real? Are they not? What evidence supports your position?” So after discussing this for 45 min. with my class, a student came to me and said she was totally lost, “What did a vegetable (Squash) have to do with any of this?” Haha. I now use more visuals. The Sasquatch is also now a theme in my class. It reminds me to always think of my student’s needs.

What would you do with the $25,000?

1st- I would throw a taco party for my class -cheese dip and all. 2nd- It is important in our family to take a portion of what we make and give it to a need. Living in Western NC, we have a lot of needs in our community due to Hurricane Helene. 3rd- My 3 kids and I like to make fun educational videos. I would buy some new equipment to make higher quality videos and materials for my class. 4th- My brother recently moved to Spain. I would love to take my family to visit. Lastly -buy more tacos!
