I love helping struggling students finally understand math and see success in problem solving.
Thank you for supporting Dana Spagnoletti in this year's competition. Your donations and participation will benefit The Planetary Society in their mission to advance space exploration, inspire discovery, and empower the next generation of innovators.
I became a teacher to help all children feel worthy of learning develop a sense of their best self. Teaching and learning are ongoing reciprocal processes to which I am called. Teaching Algebra is my favorite because I want students to know that they can work through difficulties, persevere and feel proud of themselves.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience was when one of my toughest, most reluctant learners called me mom if front of the whole class. Instead of backtracking, he simply stated, “My bad Ms. Spagnoletti is my school mom.” I was tough and struck with this student and he later told me how much he needed and appreciated the structure and that no one held him to that high of a standard before academically.
What would you do with the $25,000?I’d buy supplies for my students and take them on a field trip! I’d also put some toward a college fund for my community and hope to inspire donors to contribute as well! There would be a portion I’d set aside for my own children’s college funds. I am a single mom and this is a constant source of anxiety for me.
