Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I enjoyed explaining complex concepts to my peers in high school, a passion that continued in college. I was inspired by a teacher, Mr. Wright, who challenged me to think critically, sparking my love for problem-solving; which I believe is a vital 21st-century skill that empowers individuals and fosters independent thought—something our world greatly needs. Teaching allows me to nurture these skills in others, helping them grow into confident, self-reliant thinkers.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I recall a student being moved from Set 1 to Set 2, and both he and his mother were unhappy with the change. Over time, he appreciated my teaching style, which emphasized building rapport, fostering discussions, and formalizing ideas in well-written solutions. This student went on to top his graduating class, mentor younger STEM students, and earn a master’s in engineering. He credited his confidence in math to me, making me feel I became the "Mr. Wright" for one of my own students.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would divide the $25,000 into three parts. One part would support underprivileged students with resources, ensuring equitable access to quality education and opportunities to excel. Another part would fund a part scholarship for a deserving student to attend my current school. The final part would go toward my own professional development, enabling me to grow as an educator and better serve my students and community.
