I love teaching because of the connections and the difference I am able to have with my students. We shape and help each other evolve.

Learn MoreI became a teacher because of the connections I am able to make with students. I have been a special education teacher for 13 years and in the field for 15 years. There is nothing better than to learn from others and to see the individual growth of the students you serve.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI started my career as a teaching assistant at a middle school working one on one with an 8th grader who has autism. The staff believed that there was no way she was going to be able to handle graduation. Not only was I able to connect with her but the shared understanding that we had with one another was incredible. At the end of the year, she crossed that stage and was able to participate in all the events of graduation.
What would you do with the $25,000?I currently work at a transition program with students between the ages of 18-22. Our numbers in the program are growing and we need more space and resources. I would invest the money in that program and those students.
