Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I want all of my students to know that they are accepted and loved as they are. I hope to teach and inspire kindness, but I ultimately want kids to know they are enough— they don’t need to be anyone else but themselves. I hope that knowledge and feeling of self-love encourages a freedom to make mistakes— to learn!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching moments have been spending time outside the classroom with students! I absolutely live for the “aha” moments in the classroom, but seeing my kids do activities they love outside of school is amazing. I saw one of my students perform as the lead in a play. Seeing her confidence and knowing she wanted to share her success with me is something I’ll never forget!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I am currently in grad school getting a second masters in educational psychology, which I feel has been so helpful in the classroom! This money would be so helpful in paying for that! I’m also newly married and family planning has been an unforeseen struggle. Every little bit helps!
