Tell us why you became a teacher

Many kids don’t ‘have’ a functioning family, parents, homes, etc. I became a teacher because I love kids and want the best for them. I’m not just a teacher-I’m students’ mom away from home. If I have the ability to change or save even one life for the better-even breaking generational barriers-that makes my entire existence worth so much more.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I become very connected to my students. One student in particular, Christopher Underwood, blessed me in so many ways. I had him from sixth grade till his senior year. I was in a counseling role. I can’t explain the experience I had under 500 characters, but Chris wanted to follow in my footsteps so he joined the Navy (as did I) and became stronger in his faith. He passed away shortly after his 18th bday. I had given him a birthday gift, a necklace with a Cross. His bday was a day before mine.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Not too sure, likely use it to help our four kids with college expenses as ALL FOUR are college students at the same time…a senior, two juniors and a freshman.
