Christina Hayen

I love seeing the faces of all 460 students at my school. I love that what I do makes a difference. I can be the fun, the comfort, or friend

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to make a difference. I believe my compassion for others, my fun perspective on learning, and loving personality help me connect with each and every one of my students. I have phenomenal teachers in elementary school and I wanted to make learning fun and accessible to others.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have many memorable teaching experiences, but my favorite days are when kids get excited about learning. I am currently teaching STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), which involves hands on, engaging activities. I love when kids get to use their imagination to create something they are truly proud of. I hope that something we do in class sparks their love of learning and makes a positive impact on their life.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If there weren't stipulations, I would purchase the Indy robots that have been on my Donor's Choose several times, without getting filled. They would be a great robot to introduce Kindergarten and first grade to robotics and coding. After that, I would purchase another vehicle because my car won't likely last the year and unfortunately I cannot afford the car payment. I have my eye on a 2021 Jeep Renegade.
