Tell us why you became a teacher

My decision to become a teacher was largely influenced by my high school History teacher, Mrs. Kay. She was an exceptional educator whose positivity, passion for history, and unwavering dedication to her students left a lasting impression on me. Her ability to inspire and engage every student in her classroom made learning an enriching experience. Mrs. Kay’s influence solidified my decision to pursue teaching as a profession.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Being selected as my district’s Secondary Teacher of the Year was a tremendous honor, but the most meaningful moment came when a student asked to write a reference letter for my state nomination. In it, they shared how I had been their "Superman," helping them navigate a difficult home situation. That letter meant more than any award, reaffirming that the true purpose of teaching is to support, uplift, and inspire students beyond the classroom.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would invest in creating an engaging and well-equipped classroom by purchasing decorations, ensuring a steady supply of pencils and notebooks for every student, and providing high-quality colored pencils for creative projects. I would also enhance school spirit by participating in dress-up days, which my students enjoy. Lastly, I would save a portion to go towards my son’s education.
