Ever since I was younger I've enjoyed teaching and guiding others. This only grew with all the amazing teachers I had over my school career. I had a love of literature and reading, but an even stronger passion for helping others. I have a hard time picturing myself in any role that doesn't allow me to support others and teaching has given me the opportunity do so in many ways. Not only do I get to share my knowledge of literature, but I also get to help shape young people into amazing humans.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceIt's difficult to pick just one. There have been so many moments over the years that make me smile to think about. There was the time while teaching Julius Caesar when some of my reluctant readers wanted to fully act out a scene where they used their iPads to show images of torches and pitchforks to form a mob. There was a class that found ways to make dry grammar lessons entertaining in their own way by using the prompts to tell stories. And so many more that I could write my own novel.
What would you do with the $25,000?It'd be nice to do something fun with, but likely I'd start by paying some bills I have. Then I'd probably buy myself a reasonably priced car so I can stop leasing one and have some equity to my name. I could put it towards my student loans but it would barely make a dent. Which is okay since when I got my Masters I thought, "I'll never financially recover from this." I'd probably get a little something for my mom too since she does so much to support me.
