Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I started babysitting neighborhood children at a young age and knew that as where my heart was happiest. Second grade was my favorite school year and I knew I wanted to create a safe, enthusiastic, and memorable experience for students and that was when I decided to be a teacher! I have always loved school and being a teacher, I get to learn and grow everyday- just as the students do! By graduating from my high school’s teaching academy- this sealed the deal!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I work with children with special needs and have a large role in potty-training students. I incorporate songs, rhymes, and use visual supports. Through routine, consistency and determination I was finally able to help a student that I have had for 2 years become potty-trained. Being able to help a family with this as well, was magical! This was such a great first step that shows the child they can do anything they set their mind too! Anytime I teach a child something new and they smile!

What would you do with the $25,000?

My boyfriend and I are looking to start a family and buy a house and as this economy is very tough- this money would help so much! I am also a Doctoral student and I would love to take a celebration/graduation trip when I am finished! This money would help me to have a nest egg as my salary is still lower as I am starting out.
