Chelsea Curry

I am in year 14 of teaching! Everyday I am reminded that God put me in each of these children’s lives for one reason or another. To love!

Tell us why you became a teacher

I honestly didn’t know what I wanted to do for a living and had switched majors five times trying to figure it out. I walked into the counselors office and told her to put me in the quickest degree there was. I later realized I went in to the education counselors office. It was 100% a God thing. HE knew where I needed to be and guided my steps and future.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

While I have had many memorable experiences with my students, one student comes to mind. She had one of the hardest homelives I’ve ever seen. She came to school to be loved. I missed her after school and especially on long breaks. She always comes to school with a big smile and the best attitude. She impacted my own beliefs and attitude tremendously. It reminded me that some kids need love and a good relationship with the teacher before they can learn. But once loved, they can do anything!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I am a single mom with the sweetest little three year old boy. I would start a college fund for him first. He is also severely delayed in speech and could use speech services and feeding therapy. So the money would help him there. I would invest some of it in my classroom. I would love to find another struggling single momma or person to help and bless. Pay it forward!
