Learn MoreI’ve always had a passion in understanding children, and translating their many languages to their grown ups. Growing up, teachers offered a solace I didn’t experience at home and I always wanted to be this person for other children.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceAt my school, we create something called a citizenship contract where we come up with our community expectations. One of them was “we welcome everyone”. We talk about this daily, create activities where the children explore this, etc. One day as a child was playing, the other children were trying to exclude her. She, very loudly, shouted “I AM WELCOME HERE!”. It made us all emotional, hearing a child use her voice and agency to stand up for herself using the language we’d taught her!
