I was given a wonderful opportunity to become a bilingual resource specialist on a teacher contract to re teach all subjects to ELL students (Spanish). It was an open door and I fell in love with the career because I wasn’t just helping students learn the second language but also the material, and also helped the school learn cultural competence and open their hearts and minds for ours students.

My most memorable teaching experience was probably my first day in a classroom. I am there as a bilingual support teacher and my first day in the classroom. I remember about 20 students face lighting up when they realized that I was Latina like them, and the fact that they could relate to me as well as understand me and learn from me. The light in their eyes showing that they finally had someone who got it, was the most special thing to me.

I would say that I would love to be able to donate some of it back towards my students, but ultimately I use a lot of of it with them. I help provide backpacks. I help with meals often, I help with snacks daily when they come by because they’re hungry,I like to help parents who don’t have a vehicle getting Ubers to and from work. I think there’s so many things that I could use this for to keep up with the financial needs that I have. I would also like to take them all to a field trip.
