I have been teaching 6th grade for 14 years and the connection I can make with 11/12 year olds makes it worth it. Those lightbulb moments!

Learn MoreGrowing up, both of my parents were teachers and I was able to see first hand the difference they were able to make with middle and high schoolers. I carry that same passion with me and am able to make a difference in my 6th graders’ lives. I can be their bright spot in their day and that makes it all worth it.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI have been able to work in a co-teaching classroom these past several years so a great deal of learners have special needs. One year I had a particular student who had so many negative experiences in his previous schools. He moved here in the hope that they would be able to get the best quality education he could. Teaching empathy and inclusion to other kids allowed the student to make connections that he’s never been able to before. Teaching kids that everyone belongs is so valuable in life.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would start by paying off my student loans that I have built up from getting my masters degree in reading. If there is any money left over, I would love to treat my family to a trip. Being a teacher is incredibly hard on my family and I and being able to go away and escape for a bit would be amazing.
