Tell us why you became a teacher

Becoming a teacher was never something I thought about ever in my life, until about 15 years after college. My good friend's husband, who at the time was head of HR in our district, asked me if I ever thought about being an Agriculture Teacher. I asked him about what it would take to get me certified. I spent 2 years as a long ter substitute for ag teachers and asked myself why i never thought about teaching before. I loved it! I love teaching kids where their food comes from.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Being an Agriculture Teacher also involves FFA. As an FFA Advisor I spend over 330 hours a year outside of my contract time with my FFA students. At the end of the year, we have an awards banquet for the FFA students. One graduating senior gave a farewell speech. I had this student in my class for 4 years. He talked about the impact I had on his life. Most memorable moment for me because of how much I impacted his life for the better.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use some of it for my wedding to my fiancé who I met at the district farm. The other portion, I would donate to my schools FFA program to help improve their garden and chicken housing area. I have also promised pizza parties to each class.
