Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I love the simplicity and joy that kids bring to our lives. I love watching them discover that they can do hard things and seeing how proud they are when they achieve success with whatever new thing they are learning to do. No matter if it is overcoming a fear, playing a new game, or accomplishing a skill at school, I will support and encourage them. I want my students to know that if they work hard, they can do anything!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Memorable teaching experiences happen every day for me! They are when the students enter the classroom with a big smile and a hug because they are happy to be at school. It is when we are working hard and then something silly happens that makes us all laugh together. They are the special moments when a student realizes they can solve a problem, read a book, or write a story all by themselves! It is also the kindness and empathy they share towards each other.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I could do a lot with $25,000 for my classroom, my family, and my friends. I could remodel my classroom library to provide my students with the materials and opportunities to grow themselves as readers. My family and I could enjoy a vacation to make up for all the extra time I spend working to prepare for my students. My grade level teachers and I could attend training that is typically too expensive for our school budget that would motivate and provide us with up to date ideas.
