Tell us why you became a teacher

When I decided to become a teacher, it was after I worked in an alternative “second chance “ school for kids who dropped out of high school, were previously incarcerated, or just wanted a second chance. When I realized that my presence was helping to make a difference in their lives, I knew this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. My own children were also my inspiration for teaching. I desired to be the kind of teacher that I would want for my own kids.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

The most memorable experience I had as a teacher was when one of my students wrote about me in a district a writing competition. I had the privilege of teaching this student in Kinder and again in 3rd grade. What a huge blessing! What he didn’t realize was that I was learning from him. He taught me patience and how to teach with extreme love especially being that he was on the spectrum. The impact we both had on each other was amazing. He made me a better teacher and I am forever grateful.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Honestly, if I won this money, I would first pay some bills. Then, I would save the rest for my children’s college. I have three beautiful children. My daughter is a pre-med- Biology student in her third year. One of sons is in his senior year of high school and the youngest boy is a sophomore. My goal is to help them become the best versions of themselves and this money will help a lot.
