Tell us why you became a teacher

As a student I always had difficulty in maintaining focus in class. My grades were always average B’s and C’s. Until the 7th grade, Mr. Weisenblutt changed my mind set about school. He helped me understand that school will make me the best version of myself.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I once taught a student named Alejandro. When I received Alejandro in the beginning of the academic year his grades were all failing. After a few failed exams we had a conversation about his grades. Alejandro first words to me was “Mr.P, I’m just not good in school.” I questioned him on his study habits which to no surprise were non existent. I spoke to him regarding effort and success. Using sport analogies to help him comprehend. Alejandro finished the year an A student.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I am a paraplegic, in the past two years I’ve had several surgeries due to long hours sitting at work. These surgeries have taken me away from doing the job I love. I am currently still teaching but with the constant worry that I will reinjure myself. If I had a assisted standing device in my classroom I can see myself teaching until I retire. These devices are truly expensive but can save my life.
