Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher inspired by the exceptional educators who shaped my journey. Throughout my public education, I witnessed teachers who went above and beyond to provide opportunities for growth, encouraging me to aim high, explore new ideas, and take risks. I aspire not only to offer that same support but also to serve as a role model for students who share my background, demonstrating that hard work and dedication can pave the way to future success.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most cherished teaching moments is talking to my 8th graders about high school band. I value these conversations as they begin planning their future. Some are eager to grow up quickly, while others think high school band is just like middle school. IT'S NOT! They know I’m honest because I want the best for them, often reminding them to enjoy being young, surrounded by friends, and involved in school. Seeing them later in leadership roles or telling me I was right always warms my heart.

What would you do with the $25,000?

The $25,000 will create greater opportunities for the band program to thrive. It will help provide supplemental supplies for students, offer additional instruments for students to rent, and expand performance opportunities to showcase their incredible talent. Furthermore, it will allow us to celebrate students' achievements with end-of-year trips, fostering lasting memories and rewarding their hard work. This funding will truly enhance the program and enrich our students' experiences.
