I became a teacher because I believe in the power of education to transform lives, especially for at-risk teens. I’ve seen how hard it can be for them to see their worth when life feels stacked against them. I want to create a space where they feel seen, heard, and valued, helping them realize their potential. It’s not just about academics; it’s about empowering them to rewrite their story. Watching a student believe in themselves is what truly drives me to teach.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experiences was taking my middle schoolers on a camping field trip. Watching them explore nature, see animals up close, and enjoy s'mores for the first time was incredible. It wasn’t just about the outdoors—it was the way they built relationships, opened up to each other, and discovered new things about themselves. What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 to finish my master’s degree in special education. This would allow me to gain the knowledge and skills needed to better support at-risk youth, providing them with the tools and guidance to succeed. With advanced training, I can make a deeper impact in their lives, helping them overcome challenges and reach their full potential. This investment in my education will ultimately allow me to create more opportunities and lasting change for the students I work with.
